Aliquot #11: Unconventional effects of sulforaphane on human health: Part II
Sulforaphane exerts beneficial – and somewhat unconventional – effects in humans to promote health. For example, sulforaphane promotes the urinary excretion of benzene and acrolein, toxic compounds present in air pollution. But sulforaphane also demonstrates remarkable antibacterial activity: It reduces populations of Helicobacter pylori, or H. pylori, a type of bacteria typically resident in the human stomach that can cause stomach cancer. This Aliquot episode includes clips featuring nutritional biochemist Dr. Jed Fahey, as well as clips featuring Dr. Rhonda Patrick in an interview with tech founder and podcast host Kevin Rose.
