How reliable are liquid biopsies, such as the Galleri® blood test, for cancer screening?
Galleri® (by GRAIL) is a commercially available multi-cancer detection test using liquid biopsy technology that claims to identify more than 50 different cancers and their locations.
Liquid biopsies are innovative, non- or minimally-invasive medical procedures that analyze bodily fluids, such as blood, urine, lymph, and cerebrospinal fluid, for signs of cancer or other diseases. In the context of cancer, they detect and analyze tumor-derived cells and components—such as circulating cell-free (tumor) DNA in the case of Galleri®—for cancer screening, treatment guidance, and follow-up care, potentially revolutionizing early detection and personalized treatment strategies.
