How can prediabetes and type 2 diabetes be detected and managed with lifestyle changes?
Prediabetes is defined by blood glucose levels that are above normal but not yet high enough to meet the threshold for diabetes. It often results from underlying insulin resistance or reduced insulin production from pancreatic beta cells, substantially increasing the risk of progression to type 2 diabetes and serious complications linked to metabolic dysfunction. These include macrovascular complications, such as coronary artery disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease, and microvascular complications, including retinopathy, neuropathy, and kidney dysfunction. Alarmingly, it is estimated that about one-third of adults in the United States have prediabetes, yet more than 80% remain unaware due to the absence of noticeable symptoms.[1] [2]
